We are Foundation Open Society – Macedonia, part of the global network of Open Society Foundations founded by the American investor and philanthropist George Soros, and we started operating officially in Macedonia in 1992.
We are committed to creating a dynamic and tolerant society where citizens are aware and active, and the authorities are held accoundatble, a society where everyone has equal opportunities to explore their potentials, where everybody is involved in decision-making, where everybody initiates changes, a society where different opinion is respected and critical thinking is nurtured and developed.
Our support for its most part is expressed through grants aimed for the civil society organizations, informal groups and individuals, who operate in many areas, all in their own way towards promoting the values of an open society.
Since 1992, the foundation has invested more than 100 million dollars in the process of democratization of Macedonian society and improvement for the lives of its citizens which remains our focus and on a daily basis we raise many issues in different areas which are in the citizens’ best interest.
We actively support solutions which will enable the development of civil society, health and education promotion, rule of law strengthening, respect and protection of human rights, freedom of speech, youth engagement, Roma integration and integration of other marginalized groups, which altogether will not only enable fight against corruption, but they will also enable access to justice for all citizens equally.
